You can make a payment to us by:
- Direct Debit is the best way to pay Council Tax, Business Rates and sundry invoices
- pay directly to our bank account
- pay by phone
- Post Offices and PayPoint outlets
- postal payments
Pay directly to our bank account
You can pay directly to our bank account by standing order, telephone, internet banking or BACS transfer.

Pay by phone
We accept Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and Visa Debit.
You can call us, between 9.30am and 4pm, Monday to Friday and one of our advisers will accept your card payment: 01539 733 333
We also have an automated telephone service available 24 hours, seven days a week: 01539 263 460
Calls are charged at local rates.
Payments are usually processed within two working days. When making a telephone payment have a pen and paper handy to make a note of the payment reference.
Debit card payments
You can use either Delta or Maestro debit cards to pay:
- business rates
- Council Tax
- repayment of Housing Benefit
- parking fines
- sundry debts
Credit card payments
You can use either Visa or Mastercard credit cards to pay:
- repayment of Housing Benefit
- parking fines
- sundry debts
Post Offices and PayPoint outlets
You can pay bills at all Post Offices and shops displaying the PayPoint sign.
All you have to do is show the bar coded bill we sent you when you make your payment. There is no extra charge for using this service.
We do not offer payment cards for Council Tax or business rates.
If you pay council housing and garage rent and want to pay at a post office or PayPoint outlet, you should apply to South Lakes Housing for a card to pay your rent
You can pay parking fines at a post office (but not at a PayPoint outlet). However, the Post Office does charge a fee.
Post Offices
You can pay bills at any Post Office by cash, cheque or debit card.
PayPoint outlets
You can pay by cash at shops displaying the PayPoint sign.

We do not accept post dated cheques.
If you need a receipt, please enclose a self-addressed envelope.
