We have policies to control development affecting historic buildings and natural heritage. 

This includes: 

• countryside
• landscape
• Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
• nature conservation interests, including sites of special scientific interest
• sites of international importance
• conservation areas 
• listed buildings

We work in conservation areas promoting improvement and good management through:

• grant aid
• enhancement schemes
• appraisals (including boundary reviews)

It also includes preparation of design guidance and encouraging communities to assess what makes their town or village special.
